In an effort to silence us society constantly gaslights black girls. Telling us our passion for speaking out against the injustices we face make us seem “bitter,””angry,” crazy.” We are angry. At least I am, which is why I choose to embrace the “angry black girl” stereotype, or in my case the “angry mixed girl.” I will not allow society to silence me, my views, opinions, narratives. These are all aspects of my being and are a validation of my existence as a person of color. I choose to speak out on issues that affect not only me, but everyone, because I believe open honest dialogue is a step in changing the public’s negative perception of people like me.
